E4 Stage School

STAGE SCHOOL’S BIO

Stage School is a British structured reality television show set at the D&B Academy of Performing Arts, a drama school in Bromley, London.

The show follows the lives of staff and students who are trying to make their dreams a reality. This is the one place where you can be anything. ‘Real People, Big Dreams, Every moment is a performance’ is the slogan for the show.

It is broadcast on E4. Its first episode was shown on 5 September 2016 and a new episode was shown every weekday evening. The series has been described as a cross between The Only Way is Essex meets Glee meets High School Musical.

WHAT DID I DO WITH STAGE SCHOOL?

I took part in Stage School season 1 as an extra for two episodes. I was in Betsy-Blue English’s band for a Battle of The Bands contest taking part in the school.

We had two shoots for the show. One was in a rehearsal/recording studio called The Ritz Rehearsal Studio in Putney, London.

The second shoot was in Oslo, Hackney where the battle of the bands took place.

It was really interesting being a part of a ‘scripted reality’ TV recording and seeing how they create ‘scenes’ and seeing the interactions between the cast of the show on and off of the camera. For example, there were only about 30-50 extras in the room and Oslo is around a 300 capacity venue. They positioned everyone and shot from certain angles to make the room seem as if it was buzzing and full of vibe.

I enjoyed my time shooting but I don’t think I’d like to be in a reality TV show.
